Picking out a nail polish color can be an annoying process. Unless you take the time to test out the shade on your actual nail — which inevitably, ends in a mess and some awkward looks from your manicurist — it’s really hard to tell what it’s going to look like on your skin. And if you’re looking for gel? Forget about actually “trying” a color, because all of the sample nails are usually glued down and the polish bottles are hidden behind the counter. Thanks to one Twitter user, though, this pesky problem is officially solved. Her trick? Snapchat stickers.
“I was looking at the nail options, and the nail salon I go to has them glued inside the book so you can’t put your finger under it to see how it looks,” 18-year- old Emma Young tells Buzzfeed. She then remembered that you could create custom stickers in the Snapchat app, so she chose a color, took a photo of one of the fake nails painted in that color, and tried it on her hand. In the comments section of the original tweet, Emma notes that the whole process of making a sticker and trying it on takes less than a minute. In case you were wondering, she tried on four different colored nail polish stickers before settling on shade #150, a mink grey, Buzzfeed reports.
Emma posted her discovery to her Twitter account because she thought it was “funny and interesting,” and it went viral with 91,000 retweets and 259,000 likes in only two days. Clearly, this is a solution to a problem people really, really needed.
“It’s crazy so many people have responded to this,” Emma tells Buzzfeed. “Some people think it’s awesome and other people think it’s stupid, which is fine with me because I didn’t take the tweet very seriously to begin with. It was just a lighthearted post about an idea that I had.” An idea that’s seriously brilliant.
